Top 4 Skin Healing Effects of D-Panthenol

  1. Enhanced Barrier Function

Creams and serums that contain D-Panthenol have been known to significantly accelerate the repair of the barrier of a part of the skin. The effect of the regeneration of this skin barrier, therefore, augments its use as a skin protector, which is why it has been found to provide some relief for irritated and dry skins. A study conducted on a hydration lotion that contained D-Panthenol showed remarkable improvement of skin roughness, redness & scaling as well as itching associated with hemodialysis, for patients who suffer from pruritus and dry skin which is a common complication of end-stage renal disease.

  1. Improved Hydration & Elasticity

Another effect of D-Panthenol is the accompanying moisturizing effect on the skin. When creams, lotions or serums containing D-Panthenol are used on the skin, studies have shown that it leads to a reduced trans-epidermal water loss and an increase in the hydration of the skin layer. When used consistently on the skin, it results in an increase in the skin’s moisture. Also, women who use D-Panthenol containing creams experience a significant reduction in the level of pigmentation in hyperpigmented spots on their skins, improved skin tone, and skin lightening. It also helped them to maintain the integrity and texture of their skins, as well as remove facial lines and wrinkles.

  1. Photo-protection

When emulsions that contain D-Panthenol are used on the skin, it reduces the damages caused by UV-light which can cause damages to the fibroblasts and keratinocytes. The vitamin also helps to protect skin cells against ultraviolet radiation as well as reactive oxygen species. When the skin is protected against sunlight, it can prevent aging and wrinkling of the skin, prevent the onset of skin cancers, and sunburns as well. In order to prevent any of these damages associated with UV light, D-Panthenol creams, lotions and serums should be used every 2 hours when out in the sun.

  1. Accelerated Wound Healing

D-Panthenol accelerates the healing of wounds and inhibits the infestation of microorganisms. When found in ointments, it has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and infections. Patients with full-thickness skin ulcers that had advanced to deep tissue infection were cured completely after using D-Panthenol. It also cured patients with gangrenous lesions in the foot, following the debridement of necrotic tissues and further treatment with D-Panthenol containing ointment.
